Story so far:
Holly dreamed of becoming a teacher but had received little encouragement from her school. She contacted us at Pain Free Personal Statements. We assigned a personal consultant to Holly. They worked together to complete the UCAS application form, wrote a winning personal statement and submitted the form before the deadline. Holly got back in touch. She was delighted but nervous as she had been called for two interviews. She asked for our help.
How we helped:
Holly really did not know what to expect at an interview. She had never had the experience. For starters, we contacted previous clients who had been interviewed in previous years, practicing primary school teachers ( former clients) to understand the type of questions which would come up. As part of the process, Holly had to teach a lesson using an object. We encouraged her to choose an activity which had gone well as part of her Health and Social Care placement which she did. Using the information we had gleaned from our previous clients, we drew up a list of typical questions and ran a virtual interview which we recorded (with Holly’s permission). We then analysed Holly’s performance and gave her feedback on areas she needed to prepare in more detail.
We also provided general coaching as to how to handle common situations at interview
– How to enter the interview room
– How to ask for explanation if not sure about question
– How to refer to specific examples to illustrate a point
– What questions to have at the ready for the end of the interview
Suitably prepared, Holly attended for both interviews and was offered places at both universities. She made her final decision in due course and is now a happy undergraduate studying primary education.
